After a few earlier attempts were unsuccessful in setting an official record, Jürgen Hohenester, a German racecar driver and automotive tuner, has finally set a new world record for reaching the fastest speed ever recorded running a vehicle on biogas. Yes, Guiness has indeed been notified. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that's been converted to run on the compressed gas, the silver Audi sedan was clocked at an impressive 226.55 mph (364.6 kilometers per hour). Previously, the record was held by a Bugatti that was reportedly 20 kph slower.
Amazingly, the car reportedly wasn't even running at full capacity. It seems that this particular powerplant can reliably put out over 800... [Read More]

Clarkson on the Audi Q7 V12 TDI: It's crap and it's brilliant! |

Audi Q7 V12 TDI - Click above for a high res gallery
Last year, Audi announced the most insane version of its Q7 SUV yet in the form of the Q7 V12 TDI. The V12 is an all-new diesel engine that, for now at least, only has a home in the Q7, but at some future date, it may appear in some other VW group products (think: Bentley). The V12 produces 500 hp and a ridiculous 758 lb-ft of torque, enough to get the 2.5-ton SUV to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds.
While Audi has said it has no plans to bring the V12 Q7 TDI to America, Top Gear mouthpiece Jeremy Clarkson got to try one out and came away with mixed feelings. Like many people, Clarkson is no fan of the Q7's looks and thinks the whole premise of the vehicle is ridiculous. On the other hand, brute... [Read More]

2009 Hockenheim DTM race - click above for a high-res gallery
In news that we almost forgot, Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series kicked off the 2009 season this past weekend at the Hockenheim circuit, marking the 100th race since the series' reincarnation back in 2000.
Audi, which fielded a record 12 cars, were dominant in both qualifying and in the race, with Mattias Ekström setting a new track record on his way to capturing pole and Tom Kristensen winning his fourth DTM race. This was Audi's 49th victory in the series, and the 30th for the ABT Sportline team for which Kristensen drives. If widebody sedans and carbon fiber winglets are your thing, then check out the high-res gallery below.

Audi A3 TDI - Click above for high-res image gallery
Audi started its big push for clean diesel here in the U.S. market this spring when its big Q7 TDI finally went on sale. While the Q7 TDI is one of the most fuel efficient seven-passenger SUVs available anywhere, it's only the beginning for Audi. Assuming that Americans start taking a shine to hot oil, Audi is likely to introduce a whole series of Rudi D's disciples here. So far, however, only one has been announced in addition to the Q7, the compact A3 hatchback.
The A3 is the entry-level model for the four-ringed brand here in the U.S. Until now, it has only been sold with a choice of a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder or 3.2-liter V6 engines running on gasoline. At the ... [Read More]

Every year, Europe's Volkswagen and Audi faithful head to Austria and descend upon the Wörthersee for the annual GTI Meet, a huge annual gathering of the brands' aficionados. Over the past few years, the Wörthersee Tour has been home to the unveilings of several concept cars, such as the 650-horsepower VW Golf GTI W12 and the Audi TT Clubsport. For the 2009 edition of the meet, Audi has unveiled the Q5 Custom Concept - a slammed, primped and pimped version of... [Read More]

REPORT: GT5 to get weather changes, night racing - and yes, damage rendering [w/POLL] |

Audi is obviously looking forward to being in the coming Gran Turismo 5. After all, the Quattro company has created a website to promote its car on the Nürburgring in real life and in the game, and it interviewed GT5 mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi about what fans can expect. Yamauchi-san revealed that the game is going to offer not only more vehicles, more online features, and increased detail, but it will also include night racing, damage rendering (previously confirmed), and weather changes.
If you watch the Audi R8 Meets Gran Turismo 5 video, one of the game developers even talks of one day providing weather reports for an entire 24-hour race, and you can read the interview with Yamauchi-san by clicking on a PDF link ... [Read More]

Review: 2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro, too good for its own good |

2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro - Click above for high-res image gallery
Like nearly every other automotive outlet on the planet, we've become increasingly enamored with Audi's recent product portfolio. From the A3 to the S8, the Q7 to the R8, with all the accolades Audi's received you'd think the crew from Ingolstadt simultaneously cured cancer, rid the world of nuclear weapons and deflected a meteor destined to bring about the next ice-age.
But as the praise flowed, Audi's volume model - the A4 - grew tusks that would rival a walrus. The original A4 (B5) debuted when Boys II Men was near the top of the charts and its duo of follow-ups (the Audi B6 and B7, not the trio from Philly) were more technical reworks than thorough overhauls. But a funny thing happened in the process. As the sheet-metal evolved and the interior became a benchmark, underneath, the A4 turned into a credible sports sedan. With the engine migrating...
